Stand out ‘In Company’

Jan 16, 2020

When applying for a volunteer position, you want your application to pass with flying colours – not only so you can help others as soon as possible, but also so you can be matched with the perfect client for you, someone you can assist while making a new friend along the way.

We recently came across a wonderful example of how to stand out when making an application with impact, and this can apply to both a volunteer role, or a paid role.

Understanding the needs of the clients we work with is important, as sometimes it is the little things that make a huge difference. And as everything we do at In Great Company is designed to make a difference in the lives of the seniors we work alongside, we just love it when people catch our attention, and show us how they would join our movement!

One question that we ask all of our volunteers is: why you would like to volunteer with In Great Company?

One recent applicant wrote the following amazing response:

“Well, since I came to Australia about a year and a half ago, I started to develop a sense of awareness about the importance of helping other humans, and to be more compassionate and caring. I have been thinking a lot about how to do that, and a lot of doubts have arisen in my mind, like what I can offer, what skills I may have, I am not a nurse or a doctor… Then I realised that sometimes it is enough to share some time, and listen to other people’s stories, or just help them with little tasks that are difficult for them to do. So even if I am nervous and excited about this new volunteering adventure, I honestly think is important to try, and I am going to give it a go with some help from you”.

We cannot wait to have you on board as a Community Visitor Volunteer, April, and we are sure you will be an amazing volunteer, making a real difference to the life of someone in our community.

If you or any of your friends are excited to join In Great Company, and be someone’s hero for a day, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with us!
