Role of the month: March

Each month, In Great Company highlights a role that could help make someone's life better – whether it's through community visits, regular phone calls, or working behind the scenes, we need you to ensure that everyone has someone to rely on.

A friendly visit a day keeps the doctor away – or so we believe! In Great Company matches people in need of support to like-minded volunteers to help maintain independence and connection to community. This time around, we need community volunteers!

Volunteer with those who may be experiencing isolation and loneliness. Visit the young at heart and keep them connected to the communities they love. No doubt you’ll develop a soft spot for the people you visit and be able to simultaneously brighten their day!

We’re looking for volunteers all down the East Coast from Wide Bay to Tasmania to help keep seniors socially connected with their local communities and live bolder lives!

Laugh, chat and give purpose to someone’s life through fun, friendly, social or virtual visits, or by providing reliable and safe transport.

From accompanying clients to exciting events and outings to sharing your interests and hobbies, be it cards, crafting or cars, make a difference with In Great Company.

What does our ideal volunteer look like?

  • Embodies a friendly and cheerful volunteer spirit

  • Tech-savvy

  • Able and willing to travel to clients, and thrives on helping others

  • Operates with integrity, open-mindedness and respect, ensuring the privacy, confidentiality and dignity of our clients is always maintained

  • Energised by interacting and engaging with people, and ready to smash stereotypes around ageing

What to bring:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide a client-focused service

  • Enjoy going out and being part of a greater community- and connecting those you support to theirs

  • Be compassionate, patient, observant and a good listener

  • Comfortable using technology (including smartphones and computers) and basic applications

For brownie points:

  • Previous experience working with, or volunteering with seniors

  • Have a current unrestricted driver's licence and a registered and insured vehicle

  • Be a safe and confident driver with a good driving history

  • First Aid and CPR Certificate

  • Think age is just a number? You’re one of us

For those who may be visiting someone already, and still have some more time to give, then consider visiting a second client... and make someones day!

Variety is the spice of life - everyone is welcome, and everyone matters at In Great Company and Feros Care. We are proud to be an inclusive organisation, embracing all people, regardless of ethnicity, culture, gender, identity, sexual orientation or ability.
