At In Great Company, we believe in uplifting each other, and sharing opportunities so that each of our volunteers have the chance to gain new skills and life experiences –thereby helping those they assist.
Many of our volunteers and team members have mentioned grief and loss in the last few months as we navigate these strange and unusual times globally. In our regular volunteering week, we work with clients who are ageing and their families, and we sometimes need to offer our support through grief and loss, which can be a new journey for many of us.
This can mean supporting the client after they have lost a loved one, it could be that you receive the news that your client has passed away following a long life spent together, or it could be that you experience loss in your own life.
Firstly, we would like to offer gentle reminder that your volunteer team is always here to support you at these times, and we are also happy to connect you to our Employee Assistance Program, should you need expert help and support.
We thought it might also be good to share some free online training in this field with you, and this week it comes from Domani, who offer online courses to support you or your family as they deal with the loss of a loved one. They also offer courses designed to help you support another person through grief, and to recognise the signs that someone is grieving.
Some topics that we recommend you to consider:
Moving through grief
Healing from grief and loss
What to say and what not to say to someone grieving
There are many others on offer also to support your learning in this space.
