Training opportunity – Dementia

Jan 16, 2020

At In Great Company, we believe in uplifting each other, and sharing opportunities so that each of our volunteers have the chance to gain new skills and life experiences –thereby helping those they assist.

‘Community Care and Dementia – Understanding the Condition’ is a course that explores how dementia impacts the physiology of the brain and its effects on an individual’s ability to perform activities of daily living.

Many of our clients are in their golden years, and it is possible that as a volunteer you will be matched with someone who may have dementia. It’s important to understand this condition so that you can provide the best possible help to someone who experiences it on a daily basis. After all, they may not know who we are, but we still know who they are! A little kindness and extra attention goes a long way.

After completing this course, participants will:

  • Be aware of different types and causes of dementia

  • Explore the impact dementia has on the individual’s ability to perform activities of daily living

  • Identify how to communicate effectively with people with dementia

  • Discover how to support and assist people with dementia participate in everyday activities in meaningful ways
