International Friendship Day

Jul 23, 2020

This year’s International Day of Friendship is on Thursday the 30th of July, and we’re excited to celebrate with all our wonderful volunteers by sharing the human spirit through friendship.

Our world faces many challenges, crises and forces of division that undermine peace, security, development and social harmony among the world’s peoples.

To confront those crises and challenges, the causes of their roots must be addressed by promoting and defending a shared spirit of human solidarity that takes many forms – the simplest of which is friendship.

Everyone deserves belly laughs, a chat over a cuppa, fish and chips by the sea, or just someone to share stories and run errands with. We all need a helping hand at times, and we all benefit from great company.

Through friendship – by accumulating bonds of camaraderie and developing strong ties of trust – we can contribute to the fundamental shifts that are urgently needed to achieve lasting stability, weave a safety net that will protect
us all, and generate passion for a better world where all are united for the greater good. The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and
individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

In Great Company and Feros Care would like to recognise the importance of social connection that our volunteers facilitate in the community and promote understanding and respect for diversity.

So, watch this space for upcoming virtual events – where you can log on to hear updates, stories and most importantly meet your fellow volunteers.

This Thursday reach out and check in on a friend, neighbour or colleague. Schedule a 5-minute call to be a part of your every day and make a truly meaningful connection. We’ve all said “we should call more often” but never have the time.
Well, here it is.

It’s not always easy – but we believe in the power of connection and the compassion of everyone involved with In Great Company.
